LECTURE

WEEK 1 - An Introduction to Digital Photography, and what program are needed during this course. Photoshop is the main program we are going to use for this course. He then explains the importance of Photoshop for graphic designers.

• Express your creativity - figure out new methods to make your work much better.
• Create graphic design - can be applies to the format of a business card, posters, and more.
• Restoration of old images - bring back old photos to bring back memories.
• Integrate graphics with text artistically - combine images with a message
• Make use of brushes - the variety of brushes available is a great way to help you finish the job much quicker.
• Change photo color - can add effects to photos to provide a distinct appearance.
• Rectify mistakes in photographs - boost the aesthetic allure of your photos.

Among the 7 points, I am most interested in how to use Photoshop to restore old images with the tools in the app. We are also given tricks for a successful graphic designer.

Description: I was very impressed when I saw this illustration. The artist knows how to arrange the different elements and how to coordinate the color. Although there are a lot of elements with different sizes, it does not look messy, on the contrary, it looks very neat and the artwork itself looks like it’s telling a story of a bustling street. The way it is separated with a comic book like template adds up the unique-ness of the design.

Description: What I love about this piece is how funky it is. The combination of the realistic piece for the head and the messy sketch of the body. I have always loved artworks that feels a little bit messy or sketch-y. The pop of yellow also bring a little bit of color to this artwork which makes it stand out. Overall this design looks like a child drew it but in a cool way, which i appreciate.

Description: This design stood out to me. The combination of graphic elements and words is really cool. And how the words are placed makes the girl in the middle as the center point. The vibrant colors and the little people on the bottom of the drawing adds a nice touch to the photo. I can imagine using this as a reference as a poster for a cafe or a digital poster as a promotion of a product.
