PROCESS WORK

Exploration

Ideation

At first i had an idea for the quote "enjoy the now" and "you are a mosaic of everyone you've loved". However as I was developing the idea of the work, I was stuck.

So I decided to change my quote. Initially I had 2 quotes, "You'll figure it out" and "Speak your mind".
After consulting with both lecturers, I settled with "You'll figure it out".

Traditional Sketch

I realized that there's not enough photography elements in this piece so I made a little twist to the idea.

Digital Sketch

I was not sure with this design, I felt it lack something but couldn't figure what it was.
And I was struggling with developing the idea of how to design the text to look better.

After consulting with both lecturer and asking my friends for their opinions, I decided to discard the idea. While I was strolling through campus, I came up with the idea, instead of "arranging" the text in the sky, why not do it on the ground.

So I took some photos,

And made a new concept of the same quote and ask both lecturer and my friends which one is better. Mr. Hafiz and most of my friends said the right one, then I start to develop the design.

   Photoshop Development

Type Expression Development

After adjusting the lights and colors of the photo, I began developing the type expression in Adobe Illustration. I started with this concept.

Then I stumbled upon the youtube playlist Mr. Hafiz has provided and decided to use this technique to make my letters look like puzzle pieces.

I repeated the steps with the other elements (miscellaneous letters and puzzle pieces)
I also added shadows under the letters by copy and paste the letter but instead of 3D Extrude & Bevel, I used Rotate (Classic) and change the colors and opacity.

I purposefully left the miscellaneous letters and puzzle pieces without the gloss so that the quote is the main focus of the layout.

Then I made the rest of the text (not the main quote)

FINAL OUTCOME

It Can be Hard But, You'll Figure It Out

I get frustrated and overwhelmed easily when I don’t do things right, so this quote really is a self reflection. And I need to remind myself of this quote during this task. I struggled to come up with an idea, and with having to get approval from 2 teachers, it has been a challenge.

The puzzle pieces in the letters shows that progress is made little by little and it is okay to struggle. And me trying to put the last piece in is a sign that you can be confused when doing something. The miscellaneous pieces represents the times that something may not add up / when you did something wrong. But it is okay cause You’ll Figure It Out!

REFLECTION

This task was the first collaboration task in uni so it was interesting. And to be frank, I was pretty frustrated cause most of my ideas didn't got approved, and the one that did got approved I don't know how to develop the ideas, so I felt I was stuck. Plus, we need to get approval from both lecturer, sometimes one approved and one doesn't, so it was a challenge.

However with the technicalities itself, I enjoyed. Using the tools that Mr. Hafiz and Mr. Fauzi had taught us combined with the tools I had to learn by myself by doing my own research on how to do the methods was a fun challenge. The playlist that Mr. Hafiz provided was very helpful also.

All in all, this was a fun and challenging task for me. I loved how I had to learn new tools outside that had been taught.
