LECTURES
VFX tutorial
In this meeting, Mr Martin asked us to follow a tutorial how to edit a flick vfx video. We learnt how to remove green screens and how to adjust the elements so it fits the overall visual.

VSP Final Project
PRE-PRODUCTION
On the first brief for our final project, we were assigned to pick a number
that later shows our random pick of cards, me and my partner got number 4: The
Hierophant - What's Going On For You.
After a little bit of brainstorming we decided to do a "mentor" from your
future self.
PRODUCTION
For the shots, we use the photography studio on campus. We used the lights and properties there. We used props and placed the props so it looks like a work/study desk. And for the camera, we used my phone to record all of the scenes.
POST-PRODUCTION

This VFX needed a plugin, which is the Maxon RG Trapcode https://www.maxon.net/en/try , as this is a paid plugin, I downloaded the trial version of it.
As instructed in the tutorial, I first make key frames in every movement of
the pen. To make it smooth I needed to move each frame one by one. I edit this
clip separately from the other edits and later I will replace the unedited
clip with the edited one.
After finishing the keyframes, the tutorial showed more adjustments. I
stumbled upon a problem at this stage, in the video, the line should leave a
trail to show that you're writing in the air, but the trails did not show in
mine.
So I asked a few of my friends and Mr. Martin, and eventually found the
problem.
Now, we apply the effects using the effects and present panel.
As instructed, make a copy of the key frames and I apply the glow and fast box
blur effects on the copied layer.
I tweaked a bit of the effects to achieve the visuals I wanted to achieve, and after some changes I finally exported it and replace the this unedited clip with the edited clip.
SFX
Before I proceed with the SFX editing, I recorded a bunch of audios that I
needed that I cannot find in the internet. I recorded these audios as I was
playing the clips so that the audio matches the clip.
Then I looked for additional sounds:
- Year transition sound ( camera shutter sound )
- Background music (calm but builds up emotion )
I get most of my sounds from https://www.bensound.com/ and https://freesound.org/
I muted some of the clip's audio and leave some that I feel the audio is clear
enough. Then I started to put some of the audios I've recorded to so the audio
is clear, and then I adjusted the volume incase it is to loud or not loud
enough.
And then I put the year transition and the background music. And lastly I put
a buildup of the audio for the second half of the video (when the character
realized there's a book on the table). And lastly I made the final adjustments
for the audio.

He asked us to change some of the scenes since there are a jump cut in the video, and he asked to adjust and more of the floating papers.

Helped me with my second VFX
REFLECTION
However I had a hard time editing the second VFX since there were a few problems. The plugin needed for the second VFX are paid plugins, so I downloaded the trial versions. I also tried to look for the most suitable for the background audio and managed to found one. Lastly, I am very grateful for my team mate since she helped me a lot with this task. From this task I found so many cool audios that I will use in the future.
